Behind the Scenes: Spring is on it’s way!
Can you believe it is already March?! We certainly can’t! Spring is a fun time here at the creamery. We are busy planning for the busy season ahead, scheduling upcoming events, and more!
We are busy making all of the flavors for our Sweetest 16 March Madness Brackets! This is definitely the sweetest spring tradition at the creamery! I get to pair 16 of our handcrafted ice cream flavors in an epic bracket for our customers to determine what the ultimate winner is. Soon we will be packaging these cute bracket kits up and the competition is on!
And before you know it, it will be Easter! So we are dreaming up our Easter Ice Cream Pie flavors to share with you very soon.
This time of year is also when we are busy behind the scenes planning our spring and summer events at the creamery. Right now I am getting everything ready for our spring tasting event called the Taste of Iowa on Saturday, April 12th from 11 am – 2pm. This unique sampling event allows you to sample some of the products that we carry all year long in the store, and meet the farmers, producers, and makers behind the products. It’s a favorite event for many, and I can’t wait to share everyone who will be joining us soon!
If you can believe it, we are also in the early stages of planning our 2nd Annual Milk Run! Mark your calendars, the Milk Run will be on Saturday, June 7th at 9 am. This 5k-ish and 1 mile-ish fun run benefits local food pantries by providing them with fresh dairy products which they desperately need, but seldom receive. Last year over 420 half gallons of milk was donated to HACAP and distributed to their partnering agencies made up of food pantries throughout the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Area. We will be sharing more details about this year’s Milk Run soon!
Spring also means spring field trips and creamery tours, so the creamery is alive with the sound of curious minds asking questions and running feet (usually towards ice cream!). We love to share what we are doing here at the creamery with groups, and we still have some dates available this school year! If your group is interested in a tour of our creamery, we would love to hear from you.
And our retail store team usually grows this time of year too as we welcome new faces to the team before the busy season hits! That means I get to spend some time with our newest team members training and getting them acclimated.
And that’s just at the creamery, the farm is just as busy with planning, calving, and more!
